The Oxymoron...

It baffles me when guys (quit a few) approach & favor females that dress provocative, but want to turn around and call those same females a ho.

Or will date a girl that doesn't respect herself, and then talk bad about her.
 what?!!

I don't get it...do you?

Product Review: Organic Root Stimulator-Olive Oil (Serum)

I'm going to get straight to the point. I hate it! I thought I liked it the first time I tried it (Months ago). But now that this is my second time using it, there's nothing I like about it. Well maybe that it's protecting my hair from the heat (I don't know how you can tell).

I don't think it's the brand that I don't like but the product. I purchased the serum versus another type (There's different types...wet spray) because I thought it would be best to get a heat protector that wasn't wet. But the serum feels really harsh on my hair. Almost like a bad relaxer that made my hair coarse.

Size: 6FL. OZ.

Cyclopentasiloxane , Methyl Soyate , Dimethicone , Cyclomethicone , Dimethiconol , Amodimethicone , Aminopropyl Phenyl Trimethicone , Isopropyl Myristate , Dimethicone Crosspolymer , Methyl Olivate , Cocos Nucifera Oil (Coconut) , Parfum (Fragrance) , Amyl Cinnamal , Benzyl Salicylate , Citronellol , Hexyl Cinnamal , d-Limonene , Linalool

Price:
$7-$9
Purchased: Wal Mart

Rating: 1/5

It makes my hair feel hard, brittle, stiff, and dry. Basically the opposite of what I want. I'm use to my hair being soft, bouncy, shiny, and feeling nice after I flat iron my hair (With a relaxer *when I was wearing one* & without).

How did you apply it? I applied the product on my hair while it was wet (After a wash/co-wash) to get the full affect of my hair being straight.

How long have you been using it? This is my second time using it. If I recall correctly, I bought this in Jan. when I first straightened my hair this year.

What's the purpose of a heat protector? To protect your hair from heat damage.

How can heat damage harm your hair? The few ways that I know of are: mess with your curl pattern, burn your hair, mess with your ends. (Research other ways)

How does it feel? It's oily like baby oil. So it helps with shine somewhat. But you have to make sure you don't apply a lot to your hair. It smells so great!!! Like a cherry scent...lol

Long story short, maybe I should start looking at the ingredients in products. But first, I need to know what they ALL mean ::rolls eyes:: lol

Product Review: Hawaiian Silky 14-n-1

I've been using this product for 4+ months now and love it! It comes in a white spray bottle with green writing on it. It's really great for detangling, moisturizing, strengthens hair, defines curls, softens hair, adds shine, soothes dry scalp, reduces breakage for healthy braids, repairs chemical damage, non-greasy, no drip, thermal protection. The product is a creamy but light consistency.

They say the first ingredient in hair products is the most important ingredient in the product. When I purchased I was on the hunt for something that would help with moisturizing my hair I didn't know this at the time. I apply water to my hair just about everyday so this product doesn't conflict with my natural hair regimen.

The first ingredient in this product is WATER. Great!

Purchased from: Sally Beauty Supply
Price: $4.89 plus tax
Size: 16Fl Oz.

I love this product. One reason being is that it really moisturizes my hair. My hair has always been soft so that wasn't a problem. It defines my curls, adds shine, the product doesn't drip and lastly it smells great. I guess this product would be great for those who are women of color/minorities. I could be wrong.

You can check out other Hawaiian Silky products HERE on their website.
Rating: 4/5

Have any of you tried out any of their products? I know I plan to try out their shampoo, dry conditioner, and curl reconstructor to bring some of my curls back to life.

Homemade Deep Conditioner [2]

This deep conditioner is very similar to the last one I posted about HERE

I just used:
-Garnier Fructis conditioner
-Honey
-Proclaim Natural 7 Oil

Left to right: Garnier Fructis conditioner, Proclaim's Natural 7 Oils (love this stuff), & Honey

I used an empty container of my Procalim's gel to mix this concoction together

I love this one compared to the other deep conditioners I have made. It's simple, easy & my hair loved it. I allowed the DC to stay on my hair for about an hour. I've noticed when I add a lot of oil in my deep conditioner concoctions my hair is much more soft.

My next posts should consist of:
-My fave gel
-Product review June's Hair routine
-Update on my hair

Update [3] 2011 Hair Challenge-Going On Two Months

Yesterday (6/6/2011)  was the start of my second month of this hair challenge. I won't lie, after the big chop HERE I was discouraged. But my hair is making some great changes. I have been slacking on moisturizing my hair daily like I had promised. I guess I can state my goals here, but I'll post the products I've been using in another post.

So "Ashley what are your hair goals for the hair challenge?"

Hair goals:
-retain length
-shoulder length hair
-healthy
-maintain my curl pattern
-Use heat once a month/every other month (To check length)
-Keep my hair moisturized

I have yet to decide if I'll be posting pictures on what my hair looks like. I don't know.

10 months Being Natural

I'm late (days) with recognizing being natural for 10 months now. I had my last relaxer Spring 2010. I can't recall the month, so I just made August my official starting date.

Anyways. It hasn't been an easy journey, but I am making progress. I was transitioning for 9 months and boy was it not easy. It was always something new with my hair.

Now, things are a bit better (after I big chopped in May). My natural texture is beautiful. I have a combination of waves & curls. When my hair is wet, I have a lot of skrinkage which I hate. They say embrace your hair for what it is, but I'm not going to sit here and act like I love it. Because I don't. Just like I don't like the length.

Speaking of length. I'm going to straighten my hair and check the length of it sometime this week. I wasn't able, nor did I want to straighten my hair when I did the big chop.

I'm hoping to get those other posts I promised up this week.

Hope all is well...
